MAY DAYS 2024 Tentative Schedule of Events - May 17, 18, and 19
WoodBend Community League Hall South West of Edmonton, Alberta
Friday, May 17, 2023
TIME ACTIVITY
3:00 pm Woodbend Community Hall opens for set up.
Tenting available at the Hall – Dry Camping only
NO OPEN CAMPFIRES WILL BE ALLOWED
Parking for RVs located behind the hall
When you arrive, Registration, sign the AFRC guest book and pick up your Welcome Bag
Set up displays in the cabinets. We would all love to see what you have made in the last two years.
6:00 pm Meet and Greet Barbeque
Menu: burgers, salads, drinks, condiments ($ 15)
Free coffee and tea available all weekend (AFRC sponsored)
All evening: Fundraising events (TBD), such as sale of 50/50 Tickets (TBD), Raffle Tickets
(TBD), Silent Auction, Door Prizes
7:00 pm Sign up for field trips and workshops
Have a look at the display cases
7:30 pm Formal Welcome – Tony Cave AFRC President
10:00 pm Hall is locked for the night.
*Indoor Washroom Facilities are only available while the hall is open
**Outdoor toilet is available – No water available

8:45 am Sign up for field trips and workshops
Fundraising events such as sale of 50/50 Tickets (TBD), Raffle Tickets (TBD),

9:00 am Field Trips depart - own transportation required for all trips
Local Rock Hounding Rundle Park Edmonton with Warren Tasker – Petrified Wood Galore! 15

Self Guided – North Saskatchewan River, Prospector’s Point Devon AB, and other locations
Royal Alberta Museum , Edmonton
Rolly View Rock pick $2 per pound – Dean Chesterman and Darcy Zahacy – access to legacy
collections containing plume agates, varieties of petrified wood from Washington, California,
Nevada, Arizona, Agates of almost every kind, Landscape Jasper, Gary Green, Thunder eggs,
this pile is always a surprise and full of treasure.
University of Alberta Paleontology and Mineralogy Museum (Tentative)
12:00 noon Please provide your own lunch
1:00-4:00pm Demonstrations
Demonstrations (subject to change):
1-3 pm – Jim Routledge and Ed Zeschuk – Wire wrap Demos
1-4 pm - Gem Testing Demo- Jim Routledge Bring your precious gems to test if they are real
(Tentative)
(time to be announced) 3D- Printing with Tony Cave (Lacombe)
1:00-4:00pm Workshops
1-3pm- Brett flint-knapping (SARHA) – $20 per person (Max 15) can buy supplies or kits
there. Come be taught how to knap your own arrowhead, blade, etc. out of knappable stones
(obsidian, etc.).
2-4pm - Ukrainian Egg workshop – 2hrs (Time TBD) Provided by Terry Routledge – No cost
must pre-register. Learn the art of traditional Pysanky to traditional Easter eggs.
(Time to be announced) Carolyn Cave – Beading – (Need Description, cost, Max persons, cost
for supplies additional or included)

Crew to set up for Auction Sunday Morning
5:00pm Potluck Supper - Host club will supply the main meat dishes; all others bring other courses
and/or a dessert to share
please bring/use your own dishes and cutlery
7:00 pm AFRC Annual General Meeting
8:30 pm Signup for May Daze 2025 AFRC Auction Lots
9:00 pm Hall clean up and prep for the morning breakfast and auction
10:00 pm Hall is locked for the night

8:00 am Pancake Breakfast (Sponsored by AFRC - no charge)
9:00 am Prep and final setup for auction
9:30 am AFRC Auction (breaks every hour for 10 minutes)
12:30 pm Potluck Lunch Leftovers or Bring Your Own
1:30 pm Auction wrap up and clear out of hall
2:00 pm Tailgate sale – outside/inside hall
4:00 pm Clean up, pack up
5:00 pm GOODBYES
